Salman Khurshid Denounces One Nation One Election Proposal

Congress leader Salman Khurshid criticized the proposed One Nation, One Election system on Tuesday, asserting that the current constitutional framework does not permit simultaneous elections. He described the initiative as a "pipe dream" and argued that its implementation would violate the Indian Constitution.

Khurshid accused the government of utilizing "convoluted and indirect routes" to reach its objectives, specifically citing efforts regarding delimitation, the increase of parliamentary seats, and the implementation of women's reservation. He further expressed skepticism toward the central government's foreign and economic policies, including ethanol blending in petrol and trade agreements with the United States.

Regarding judicial matters, Khurshid addressed a recent Allahabad High Court ruling on school hijabs, stating the decision would not be consequential because the Supreme Court had already settled the issue.
