Sequoia Capital Leads $1 Billion Funding Round for Valar Atomics
Valar Atomics Inc. raised $1 billion in Series B funding to mass-produce small modular reactors for AI data centers and industrial sites.
Sequoia Capital led a $1-billion Series B funding round for Valar Atomics Inc., valuing the El Segundo-based nuclear startup at $6 billion. The financing round included contributions from Atreides Management, Point72, and Snowpoint Ventures, and was supplemented by a $200-million credit facility.
The company intends to use the capital to transition from demonstrating small modular reactors to producing them in volume. Chief Executive Officer Isaiah Taylor stated that the funding will accelerate the manufacturing pace to reduce the time required to build reactors, noting the need for scale to support the rapid growth of AI.
Following a July technical milestone where the startup powered an Nvidia Corp. AI chip via a fission reaction, Valar Atomics and Nvidia are now planning a 30-megawatt AI facility in Utah. This project aims to integrate nuclear power directly with AI compute infrastructure to meet increasing industrial power demands.
