Whitmer Lifts Lane Restrictions for Labor Day Weekend

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that the Michigan Department of Transportation will lift lane restrictions on 91 of 156 statewide road and bridge projects to reduce traffic delays during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The measure, which affects nearly 60% of ongoing projects, begins at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, and continues until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

While the state is removing construction barrels and lifting restrictions, officials warned drivers to remain cautious because some equipment and specific traffic configurations, such as shoulder closures, may still be present in work zones.

Additionally, the Mackinac Bridge will be closed to public vehicle traffic on Monday, Sept. 7, from 6:30 a.m. to noon to accommodate the annual Bridge Walk. During this closure, traffic will be stopped at Exit 344 for southbound I-75 and US-2, and Exit 337 for northbound I-75.
