United Nations Strengthens Security Ties With Central Asian States

United Nations officials met with foreign ministers from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to advance regional security, counterterrorism, and sustainable development initiatives.

The United Nations conducted a series of high-level diplomatic engagements across Central Asia on November 4 to bolster regional stability and security. In Turkmenistan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Myahri Byashimova met with Kaha Imnadze, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, to review cooperation through the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. The discussions focused on implementing Turkmen initiatives to promote international peace, trust, and constructive dialogue.

Simultaneously, UN Under-Secretary-General Alexander Zuev met with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov in Tashkent. Their talks centered on the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the implementation of a bilateral roadmap. The officials specifically discussed Uzbekistan's experience in the rehabilitation and reintegration of its citizens, as well as the prevention of extremism and the promotion of religious tolerance.

These coordinated efforts highlight a broader UN strategy to enhance national capacities and foster intercultural dialogue to address shared security challenges across the Central Asian region.
