Snowflake CEO Prioritizes Data Quality Over AI Models
Sridhar Ramaswamy argues that high-quality governed data is the primary competitive advantage for enterprises as AI software becomes a commodity.
Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy stated at The Six Five Summit: AI Unleashed 2026 that high-quality, governed data provides a greater competitive advantage for enterprises than the specific choice of AI models. He argued that as coding agents turn software into a commodity, the value of AI depends entirely on the quality and governance of the underlying data.
Ramaswamy advocated for an iterative approach to data modernization, suggesting companies prioritize critical business functions over total data cleanups before adopting AI. He noted that "the smartest model in the world cannot make sense of truly bad data."
Snowflake is applying these principles internally through Snowhouse, a system that integrates data from Salesforce, Workday, and internal sources to support AI agents for its 4,000-person sales force. To prevent vendor lock-in and control costs, the company distributes traffic across OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source models. Snowflake reported that its Cortex AI offering has reached 30% penetration across its customer base, with 46% of customers planning to increase their spending.
