Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh oversaw house reconstructions in Kanto Sabal and met with public figures to advocate for communal harmony following ethnic arson attacks.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Kanto Sabal in the Imphal West district on July 15 to review the aftermath of an arson attack that occurred on July 11. During the visit, Singh oversaw the reconstruction of six houses belonging to the Meitei community, which were set ablaze during a Kuki community protest regarding the movement of essential commodities. Police subsequently arrested two individuals in connection with the attack: Kammang Lhouvum, the chief of Hengjang village, and Pagin Hangshing.
Singh urged residents to maintain communal harmony, stating that peace is the foundation for the state's development in healthcare, education, and infrastructure. He addressed a memorandum from the Village Development Committee and Meira Paibis requesting strengthened security and assured them that the government is prioritizing the restoration of normalcy and free movement along national highways. Sekmai MLA H. Dingo Singh noted that the ethnic conflict is a complex issue that will require time to heal.
On July 16, Singh met with actor Randeep Hooda and actress Linthoingambi Laishram at his bungalow in Imphal. He renewed his appeal for all communities to support the peace process and highlighted a recent initiative in the Jiribam district that has reduced the trust deficit among local populations. Hooda joined the appeal, urging the people of Manipur to unite for a brighter future.
