Republican Brent Taylor Wins Tennessee 9th District House Seat
Republican Brent Taylor defeated Democrat Justin Pearson to win the U.S. House seat for Tennessee's 9th Congressional District.
Brent Taylor, a Republican state senator, won the election for the U.S. House of Representatives in Tennessee's 9th Congressional District on November 5, 2026. The Associated Press declared Taylor the winner at 2:40 p.m. EST.
Taylor defeated Democratic candidate Justin Pearson in a race held within a reconfigured congressional district that divided a majority-Black district in Memphis. The victory followed a campaign period in which Taylor acknowledged an "indiscretion" after reports emerged that he had sent unsolicited nude photos of himself as recently as 2021.
Pearson entered the race with national recognition from 2023, when he was one of three Tennessee House members targeted for expulsion after participating in a gun control protest in the state legislature.
