Elon Musk Mocks Sam Altman After Apple Sues OpenAI

Elon Musk accused Sam Altman of scamming and theft after Apple Inc. sued OpenAI for misappropriating hardware trade secrets and confidential circuit designs.

A public dispute erupted between Sam Altman and Elon Musk on X following a lawsuit filed by Apple Inc. against OpenAI. Apple alleges that OpenAI misappropriated confidential trade secrets, circuit designs, and component architecture for future hardware products. The lawsuit claims OpenAI used job interviews and the recruitment of over 400 former Apple employees to extract proprietary information about consumer device plans and supplier networks.

Musk, the chief of SpaceXAI, accused Altman of stealing an open-source AI charity and Apple's phone technology, referring to him as "Scam Altman." Musk further suggested Altman might require a "parole officer" to attend the upcoming launch of SpaceX's AI1 satellites. OpenAI's Director of Strategic Communications denied the allegations, stating the company has no interest in other companies' trade secrets.

Altman responded by mocking Musk's pursuit of orbital data centers to solve AI energy constraints and criticized him for selling public market investors on short-term space data centers. The exchange coincided with the simultaneous release of OpenAI's agentic AI model, 5.6 Sol, and SpaceXAI's Grok 4.5. Altman claimed that 5.6 Sol is the best model in the world based on various benchmarks, asserting that Musk's obsession with him is the most reliable indicator of the model's success.
