Anthropic revealed in its IPO filing that the retail value of its internal Claude AI usage exceeded monthly employee compensation costs, excluding stock awards, in April. The company values this internal consumption at the same prices it charges external customers, though it is not spending more cash on AI than on salaries.
Internal AI consumption grew more than 250-fold between January and September. By September, Claude wrote more than 90% of the code added to the company's software. This integration of AI into its own development process contributed to revenue growth that has significantly outpaced increases in headcount.
