Motorists Protest CNG Shortage at NNPC Station in Minna
Motorists in Minna protested at an NNPC mega station after a faulty dispensing machine caused a three-month shortage of Compressed Natural Gas.
Motorists and commercial vehicle operators protested at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) mega station along the Western Bypass in Minna on October 24, 2026. The demonstrators demanded an explanation for a three-month shortage of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) that has left many vehicle owners unable to fuel their cars.
Many protesters reported spending significant sums, in some cases over one million naira, to convert their engines from petrol to CNG to lower operating costs. A station employee attributed the prolonged outage to a faulty component in the CNG dispensing machine that has not been repaired. Protesters warned that further inaction from management would trigger larger demonstrations involving commercial tricycle operators.
Alhaji Muhammad Abdullah, director of the Niger State Ministry of Transport, clarified that the protests were directed specifically at the NNPC. He noted that the ministry's own CNG initiatives have not yet launched.
