Israel Defense Forces Kill Five Militants in Gaza Airstrikes
The Israel Defense Forces conducted airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, killing five Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants accused of violating a ceasefire.
The Israel Defense Forces conducted a series of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip between October 5 and October 8, 2026, resulting in the deaths of five militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The military stated the targets were planning attacks against Israeli troops and civilians and were working to rebuild military capabilities in systematic violation of a ceasefire agreement.
On October 9, the military reported that strikes on Thursday killed Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket department commander Hussam Walid Hassan Abu al-Ata and operative Majdi Muin Youssef al-Ayoubi in Gaza City, along with Hamas company commander Mohammed Aja in the Al-Furqan area. Earlier operations on October 5 and 6 killed Hamas members Muhammad Gamal and Muhammad Yazji. The military identified Yazji as being involved in holding three Israeli hostages: Emily Damari, Romi Gonen, and Matan Angrest.
The IDF Southern Command remains deployed in the region to address immediate threats while maintaining that its actions adhere to the terms of the ceasefire.
