Bernama Chairman Urges AI Cooperation Between China and Malaysia
Wong Chun Wai calls for practical AI technology partnerships and people-centered content to strengthen media ties between China and the Global South.
The chairman of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Wong Chun Wai, advocated for deeper practical cooperation in artificial intelligence between China and media organizations in the Global South. Speaking at the 7th World Media Summit in Beijing, Wong stated that China is well positioned to support the media sector through its technological advancements and international partnerships.
Wong urged media organizations to move beyond general commitments and focus on capacity building and the application of AI to reshape newsroom operations. He specifically noted that China's AI-driven short dramas offer a model for the expansion of Malaysia's own creative and cultural industries.
To strengthen ties between China and Malaysia, Wong emphasized the production of people-centered content focusing on tourism, travel, and food. He argued that focusing on how young people live in both nations would increase audience reach and engagement. Regarding the accessibility of these technologies, Wong noted, "It's very easy to buy a tool and put it in your company."
