Cheyenne LEADS Reports 25 Data Centers in Laramie County

Betsey Hale of Cheyenne LEADS confirmed 25 active or planned data centers in Laramie County, dismissing higher estimates as inaccurate.

Betsey Hale, CEO of Cheyenne LEADS, reported that Laramie County has approximately 25 data centers that are either active, under construction, or in the approval process. This figure consists of 10 active centers, five under construction, and 10 currently in city or county planning.

Hale dismissed media reports claiming the number of facilities is as high as 40 or 70, stating those figures are way out of line. She noted that the development process is often lengthy, citing a six-year collaboration with Meta Platforms Incorporated before that project became a reality.

To address environmental concerns, Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins intends to require closed-loop cooling systems for data centers to minimize water consumption. Hale supported this focus on efficiency, arguing that some local golf courses use more water seasonally than 10 data centers combined.
