Houthi Missile Strikes Kill 30 Yemeni Government Troops

The Houthi rebels launched ballistic missile and drone attacks on Thursday against government military camps in the Marib and Hadramout provinces of central and eastern Yemen. Yemeni government officials reported that at least 30 government troops were killed and 50 wounded in the assaults.

Houthi Brigadier General Yahya Saree claimed the strikes targeted Saudi-backed forces and resulted in "hundreds" of casualties. Saree asserted the operation was a response to a buildup of Saudi-backed forces in eastern Yemen.

The U.S. mission to Yemen condemned the attacks, characterizing them as terrorism against the Yemeni people. These strikes mark a significant escalation in conflict since a de facto truce was established in April 2022. The violence continues the broader civil war that began in 2014 and the subsequent 2015 intervention by a Saudi-led coalition intended to restore the internationally recognized government to power.
