Azerbaijan Connects 100 MW Chinese-Built Solar Plant to Grid

Ilham Aliyev presided over a ceremony in Baku on Wednesday to connect the 100 MW Gobustan solar power plant to the national grid. Located in the Garadagh district, the facility was invested in and constructed by the Chinese firm Universal Energy Co., Ltd.

The plant utilizes approximately 200,000 solar panels and a 110 kV substation to generate an estimated 200 million kWh of electricity annually. This production is expected to save 45 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduce carbon emissions by 97,000 tonnes each year.

President Aliyev described renewable energy cooperation as a highlight of the comprehensive strategic partnership established between Azerbaijan and China in 2025. He encouraged further Chinese investment to accelerate the country's energy transition and expand its capacity to export green electricity.
