Apple Launches Second-Generation HomePod Mini With Siri AI
Apple released a second-generation HomePod mini featuring an S10 processor and Siri AI integration requiring pairing with Apple Intelligence-enabled devices.
Apple launched the second-generation HomePod mini, integrating an S10 processor and support for Siri AI. The new speaker retains the design of the original model but introduces a refreshed color palette. To access personal context through full Siri AI functionality, users must pair the device with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.
While the first-generation HomePod mini is excluded from these updates, the company's website briefly provided clues regarding the full-size HomePod. A user identified alt text for a full-size HomePod image describing a "multi-colored Siri AI glow on top," and some images appeared to mirror the glow of the new mini. Apple subsequently replaced these images, leaving it uncertain if the text was an error or a signal of a future update.
Technical constraints may impact the rollout for larger models. Analysts observed that the full-size HomePod utilizes an S7 processor which lacks a Neural Engine, a deficiency that could limit its capacity to run the complete Siri AI suite.
