Guyana Oil Exports Hit US$15 Billion in Early 2026
Guyana exported US$15.05 billion in crude oil during the first half of 2026, seeing a significant increase in its profit share from ExxonMobil.
Guyana exported US$15.05 billion in crude oil during the first six months of 2026, marking a 40% increase over the previous year. This growth was driven by higher production volumes and an average price increase to US$92.68 per barrel.
Despite the high export value, the country initially received only US$1.9 billion in earnings for the period. This discrepancy resulted from a 2016 agreement allowing ExxonMobil Inc. to retain up to 75% of oil to recover development costs in the Stabroek Block.
President Irfaan Ali announced that because the company has now recovered US$55 billion in investments, Guyana's profit share has increased from 12.5% to 39.8%, while the cost-recovery share dropped to 20%. This shift led to a surge in inflows for the Natural Resource Fund, which received US$778 million in August and US$768 million in September, bringing total yearly earnings to US$3.5 billion.
