Jake Johnson Leads Minnesota 1st District by 323 Votes
Democrat Jake Johnson holds a narrow lead over Republican Brad Finstad in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District, leaving the race open to a potential recount.
Democrat Jake Johnson holds a 323-vote lead over Republican incumbent Brad Finstad in the race for Minnesota's 1st Congressional District following Tuesday's election. With a margin of 0.1% out of more than 326,000 votes cast, the result falls within the 0.25% threshold that allows a losing candidate to request a publicly funded recount.
The Brad Finstad campaign has not yet conceded or confirmed whether it will seek a recount. Before the results are finalized, county canvassing boards will conduct post-election reviews, which include public hand-counts in select precincts to verify the accuracy of optical-scan voting machines.
Official certification of the results is scheduled for November 19, when the Minnesota State Canvassing Board meets. A recount request must be filed within 48 hours of that certification.
