10-Year Treasury Yield Hits Highest Level Since 2002

The 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.304% following upward GDP revisions and persistent inflation data in the United States.

The 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.304% on Wednesday, reaching its highest point since 2002. This surge followed data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, which revised real annualized GDP growth for the first half of the year upward from 1.8% to 2.4%, while nominal gross domestic income grew 6.9%.

Market analysts attribute the rise to a combination of strong economic growth and persistent inflation, which remains near 3% despite the Federal Reserve System's 2% target. While some investors fear these rising yields could trigger a financial crisis, bond investor Jim Bianco has expressed optimism. He argues that current yield levels provide a sufficient cushion against price declines and offer a better value proposition than equities.
