Congress Names Candidates for Telangana Graduate MLC Elections

The Indian National Congress named Sama Rammohan Reddy and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy as its candidates for two Graduate Member of Legislative Council constituencies in Telangana. The selection followed discussions led by party leader Mallikarjun Kharge, with Sama Rammohan Reddy contesting the Hyderabad-Rangareddy seat. The elections are scheduled for early 2027 to fill vacancies expiring in March.

Concurrent with the candidate announcements, the Election Commission of India initiated a fresh revision of electoral rolls on September 28. Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy stated that all eligible graduates, including those previously registered, must re-register by November 6 to be included in the rolls. The qualifying date for enrolment is November 1, 2026, with draft rolls scheduled for publication on November 25 and final rolls due December 30.

Political competition for the seats has intensified as Bharat Rashtra Samithi Working President K.T. Rama Rao registered his vote in Hyderabad and urged party activists to prioritize registration. Rama Rao claimed the political climate favors the BRS due to public resentment toward the ruling Congress government and a decline in BJP popularity. The upcoming polls are expected to focus on education and employment issues affecting the graduate electorate.
