Senator Mitch McConnell missed the 146th St. Jerome Fancy Farm Picnic in Fancy Farm, Kentucky, on August 1, 2026. The absence marks a rare departure from the annual political tradition and would have been his final appearance as a sitting senator, as he has decided not to seek reelection.

McConnell is currently receiving intense physical therapy at a rehabilitation center. His medical recovery follows a June 14 fall that left him briefly unconscious, as well as a subsequent bout of mild pneumonia. While the senator sent best wishes to the community, his absence became a central theme during the event.
