MongoDB Releases Version 9.0 and New AI Agent Tools
MongoDB launched database version 9.0 alongside Atlas Infinite and the Atlas AI Engine to improve performance and deployment for AI-powered applications.
MongoDB Inc. released version 9.0 of its database and introduced two new offerings, Atlas Infinite and the Atlas AI Engine, to support the increasing data demands of AI agents. Version 9.0 delivers performance gains over version 8.0, including up to 35% faster find-one queries and double the throughput on large instances for transactional workloads.
Atlas Infinite disaggregates compute and storage to enable independent scaling and uses a consumption-based pricing model to manage the unpredictable spikes typical of AI workloads. The Atlas AI Engine provides a model-agnostic and cloud-neutral framework for deploying AI agents into production, incorporating built-in security, governance, and memory. This engine utilizes embeddings and reranking technology from Voyage AI Innovations, Inc., which MongoDB acquired in 2025.
Chief Product Officer for Core Products Ben Cefalo noted that the growing use of AI agents is causing applications to store more data, while Chief Product Officer for AI and Emerging Products Pablo Stern-Plaza stated that organizations are often forced into a false tradeoff between vendor lock-in and managing their own frameworks. MongoDB 9.0 is available immediately, while Atlas Infinite and the Atlas AI Engine are in public preview.
