Bank of Ireland and Danske Bank Report Strong 2026 Growth
Bank of Ireland and Danske Bank reported increased incomes and lending growth for the first nine months of 2026, driven by digital expansion and resilient housing demand.
Two major financial institutions reported strong growth for the first nine months of 2026, citing digital transformation and resilient market demand. Bank of Ireland saw total income rise 6%, with net loans growing 5% to €86.1 billion and assets under management increasing 16% to €67 billion. Based on this performance, the bank upgraded its 2026 net interest income guidance for the second time this year to more than €3.5 billion.
Group Chief Executive Myles O’Grady stated the bank is meeting all priorities for its new strategic cycle and remains on track for its 2028 financial goals. The bank also launched a new mobile app and advanced its financial planning platform to support its wealth and insurance strategy.
Simultaneously, Danske Bank reported a 20% increase in pre-tax profit, reaching £209 million. Overall incomes rose 12% to £355.7 million, while customer lending grew 9% to nearly £7.4 billion. Chief Executive Julie-Ann Haines attributed this growth to low unemployment and sustained housing demand in Northern Ireland.
Danske Bank approved approximately £940 million in total mortgage lending across the UK and over £570 million for the Northern Ireland business community. The bank also expanded its digital reach by introducing an online application process for 16- and 17-year-olds to open personal current accounts.
