North Yorkshire Council Announces Multiple Road Closures and Traffic Orders
North Yorkshire Council and Northern Gas Networks are implementing various road closures, speed limits, and traffic restrictions across the region starting October 23.
The North Yorkshire Council is implementing a series of traffic restrictions and road closures across the region beginning in late October 2026. These measures include an 18-month experimental School Streets order on Grove Street near Norton Community Primary School starting October 23, which prohibits motor vehicles during peak school hours.
In coordination with the council, Northern Gas Networks will close a section of Welham Road in Norton from 9 a.m. on October 23 until the evening of October 24 to upgrade an aging metal gas network. The closure affects the area outside No. 42 Welham Road and will be followed by the installation of multi-way traffic lights at the Park Road and Welham Road junction, requiring diversions for all road users traveling south.
Further restrictions begin November 9. Highfield Road in Malton will close for two weeks for guardrail repairs, and High Lane in Beadlam will close through November 18 for connection works. Additionally, a 20mph speed limit will be enforced on Mill Lane in Birdsall until May 2028 due to uneven road surfaces. Forestry operations by Castle Howard will also result in the closure of public footpaths and bridleways in Hovingham and Fryton from November 9 until May 8, 2027.
