Green Party Gains Ground on Labour in Urban Polls

A poll by the thinktank ThinkLabour shows the Green Party is now only four points behind the Labour Party in urban constituencies across the United Kingdom. Since the 2024 general election, Green support in major cities has increased by 12 points, while Labour's share has dropped by 20 points.

Christabel Cooper, author of the report, identifies 40 seats where the Greens could potentially win. She suggests that urban progressives are abandoning Labour due to a lack of clarity on party values and controversial policies, including cuts to winter fuel payments and restrictive legal migration measures introduced by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

The shift poses an immediate threat to Labour in the upcoming Holborn and St Pancras byelection, where Green Party leader Zack Polanski is contesting the seat. Cooper warns that aggressive attacks on the Greens may backfire, as progressive voters often view such tactics unfavorably.
