Georgia Absentee Ballot Request Deadline Hits October 23

Georgia voters face a Friday deadline to request absentee ballots for the November 3 midterm elections amid a surge in in-person early voting.

Friday, October 23, marks the final deadline for voters in Georgia to request an absentee ballot for the 2026 midterm elections. State law requires that ballot applications be received by county election offices 11 days before the election, which is scheduled for November 3.

All 8.2 million registered voters in the state are eligible to request a mail ballot without providing a specific reason. Those who miss the deadline can still cast their votes in person during the early voting period or on Election Day.

Recent early voting data indicates a sharp shift in voter behavior since the 2022 midterms. In-person turnout has increased significantly, while mail voting has declined. Of the more than 1.4 million ballots cast statewide to date, over 1.3 million were cast in person, compared to approximately 69,000 cast via mail. The Government of Georgia continues to oversee the process and enforce the statutory deadline.
