Kiren Rijiju Condemns Desecration of Indian Flag in New York

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju warned pro-Khalistan protesters after they allegedly desecrated the Indian national flag outside a New York event featuring RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Indian Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the desecration of the Indian national flag by pro-Khalistan protesters outside Madison Square Garden in New York on August 29, 2026. The demonstrations occurred while Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), addressed the Universal Oneness Celebration at the venue's Infosys Theater.

Videos of the incident allegedly showed protesters, reportedly associated with the India-designated terrorist group Sikhs for Justice, tying the flag to a foot and tearing it apart while shouting pro-Khalistan slogans. Rijiju shared the footage on X, stating that while criticism of the government, BJP, or RSS is permissible, insulting the nation and its flag "will cost you very dearly."

Inside the theater, Bhagwat addressed over 6,000 Indian-American community members and interfaith leaders. He emphasized that unity in diversity is part of "Bharat’s DNA" and urged the Bharatiya diaspora to remain loyal to the United States, which he described as their "Karma Bhumi." Bhagwat stated that because they live and earn in America, they should behave as true Americans and fulfill their duties to their country of residence.

The event also featured speakers from the Rabbinical Assembly, Riverside Church, and Masjid Muhammad, who delivered messages of compassion and oneness.
