NY Senator Peter Oberacker Faces Backlash Over Nazi Photo

Peter Oberacker, a New York State Senator and congressional candidate, is facing scrutiny over a 2015 Facebook post. In the post, Oberacker shared a photograph of his deceased grandfather, Ludwig Oberacker, wearing a Nazi military uniform and swastika.

Oberacker accompanied the image with text stating that his grandfather "gave his life for his country" and offered a salute to all who served. Local resident Marcy Feld described the judgment behind the post as "deeply troubling."

Further reports indicate that Oberacker considered hiring a campaign manager who had previously participated in an online Young Republicans group chat that praised Adolf Hitler.
