Citrini Research Backs Life Sciences After AI Protein Project
Citrini Research is investing in life sciences stocks after using Anthropic AI to design proteins that successfully bound to scorpion toxins in lab tests.
Citrini Research announced on Tuesday that it is backing life sciences stocks, including Charles River Laboratories, Revvity, and Tecan Group, following a three-month project using Anthropic's Claude AI to design proteins targeting scorpion toxins.
Using an advanced internal Anthropic model and over 300 AI sub-agents, the firm designed 211 proteins. Lab tests conducted by Twist Bioscience and Adaptyv Bio showed that 17 of these proteins successfully bound to toxins. The project cost $200,000 and identified several high-affinity designs.
Despite the results, the firm noted that blocking effects remain untested. Citrini Research stated that "a great deal of science remains before anyone could call the result a treatment."
Analysts at the firm argue that the emergence of AI virtual biologists will drive increased demand for life sciences companies. They described the sector as a secular story at cyclical lows and specifically characterized Revvity as the compute of biotech.
