Vivek Ramaswamy Criticizes Amy Acton Over Refusal to Debate
Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called for open dialogue and criticized Democratic opponent Amy Acton for holding closed-door events and avoiding gubernatorial debates.
Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized Democratic opponent Amy Acton for her refusal to schedule or attend debates during a Columbus Metropolitan Club forum on Wednesday. Ramaswamy advocated for more open dialogue in Ohio and the United States, stating that a debate between the candidates would be more productive.
These comments coincided with a closed-door campaign rally held by Acton for Ohio State University students in Columbus. Acton rented a studio from WOSU Public Media for the event but barred media outlets from covering the rally or questioning her. Protesters gathered outside the venue, including an individual in a chicken costume who mocked Acton's avoidance of debates.
Earlier on October 10, Ramaswamy campaigned at a Delaware County Republican Party event in a suburb of Columbus. During that appearance, he positioned himself as an independent leader, arguing that a leader should not simply tell people what they want to hear.
Early voting in Ohio remains open until November 1, with the general election scheduled for November 3.
