Moms for Liberty Suffers Losses in Florida School Board Elections

Conservative organization Moms for Liberty experienced significant losses in Florida school board elections on August 19, 2026. Notable defeats occurred in Sarasota County, the home of co-founder Bridget Ziegler, where three aligned candidates lost, and in Orange County, where member Alicia Farrant lost her bid for countywide chair. Two aligned candidates also lost in Flagler County, including one previously endorsed by Ron DeSantis.

Critics and winning candidates characterized the results as a rejection of extremism and culture wars. The organization's influence appeared to wane, as it endorsed only 15 candidates—its smallest list since its 2021 formation—and reduced political spending to approximately $2,000, down from over $20,000 in 2022. In Brevard County, some endorsed candidates omitted the group's support from their campaign materials.

CEO Tina Descovich disputed the narrative of decline, claiming a sweep because 11 of the 15 endorsed candidates won or advanced to runoffs. Conversely, the Equality Florida Action PAC spent $250,000 supporting candidates facing the group's challengers, with leadership stating that voters have grown tired of the organization's tactics.
