United Airlines Launches Largest International Network Expansion in History

United Airlines Holdings Inc. is launching the largest international network expansion in its history, adding 10 destinations across Europe and Asia starting as early as March 2027. The carrier will deploy Airbus SE A321XLR long-range narrow-body aircraft to serve secondary cities and tourist hubs, including Luxembourg, Marseille, Ibiza, Valencia, and Okinawa.

New routes will operate from hubs in Newark, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles. The A321XLRs, capable of flying up to 4,700 nautical miles, are replacing the airline's aging Boeing Co. 757 fleet. United will begin domestic flights with the new model next month, followed by international service starting December 1.

To attract high-spending leisure travelers, the airline will equip the planes with lie-flat business class seats and blocked middle seats in select Economy Plus rows. Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances, detailed the strategy to target secondary cities as part of the growth plan.
