Azerbaijan Ties Armenia Peace Deal to Constitutional Amendments

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated Azerbaijan is ready to finalize a peace agreement with Armenia once Armenia amends its constitution.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan's readiness to conclude the peace process with Armenia during a joint press conference with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen on October 26. Bayramov asserted that the finalization of a peace agreement depends on Armenia amending its constitution, stating that Azerbaijan will be ready to put the final point on the matter once those changes occur.

Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan has taken several unilateral steps over the past year to demonstrate goodwill, specifically citing the Washington Summit as a historic example of this effort. He emphasized that the peace process serves the interests of both nations and urged Armenian society to prioritize peace.

According to Bayramov, the peace agreement has already been initialled and signed, and the document remains available for review by both nations and the international community. Azerbaijan continues to monitor internal discussions within Armenia to determine when the necessary constitutional prerequisites are met.
