Irish Aviation Authority Proposes 15% Cut to Dublin Airport Fees
The Irish Aviation Authority proposes reducing Dublin Airport passenger charges to €8.85, sparking conflict between the airport operator and low-cost airlines.
The Irish Aviation Authority proposed reducing passenger charges at Dublin Airport by 15% next year, lowering the fee from €10.39 to €8.85. The regulator stated that increasing passenger volumes, projected to hit 44.5 million by 2031, allow fixed costs to be distributed across more travelers while boosting commercial revenue. The agency intends to maintain charges below €9 through 2029, though fees may rise to between €10 and €11 by 2031 should major infrastructure projects commence.
The airport operator, daa, criticized the proposal and had previously requested fee increases up to €13 per passenger to fund a €5.6 billion expansion project. Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson welcomed the reduction, pledging to base three additional aircraft in Dublin and add 2 million low-fare seats starting in summer 2027 if the plan is finalized. Aer Lingus is currently reviewing the decision through a formal consultation process.
A final determination regarding the charge structure through 2031 is expected by the end of the year.
