Former staffers and lawmakers describe a pattern of isolation from the Democratic Party, which includes a strained relationship with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer after Fetterman was denied a seat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

To address a poor attendance record, Fetterman reportedly adopted a strategy suggested by Republican Senator Katie Britt to briefly enter hearings to be marked present without participating. Despite these internal tensions, Fetterman has maintained a collaborative public relationship with fellow Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick, appearing with him in Philadelphia and Erie to promote child investment accounts and discuss poverty.

Fetterman has denied rumors that he intends to switch parties, though he stated he would leave the Democratic Party if it becomes "the anti-Israel party." Recent polling indicates that Fetterman currently holds more popularity among Pennsylvania Republicans than Senator McCormick does.
