Winnebago County Board Approves 2027 Budget in 29-3 Vote
The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors approved a 2027 budget that increases spending by 5.8% while lowering the average property tax rate.
The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors approved the 2027 budget proposal in a 29-3 vote. Proposed by County Executive Gordon Hintz, the plan increases overall spending by approximately 5.8% but lowers the average property tax rate by 18 cents to $3.24.
Hintz stated that the budget focuses on protecting core services, investing in employees, and maintaining community infrastructure through a capital improvement plan. He noted that the final version followed months of collaboration between department heads, county staff, and public input gathered during budget town halls.
Following the vote, Hintz said the budget reflects "months of hard work, thoughtful collaboration, and a shared commitment to moving Winnebago County forward." He credited the County Board's engagement and support for adopting a plan that maintains the infrastructure communities depend on.
