Toyota Launches Land Cruiser FJ to Combat Chinese Rivals

Toyota Motor is using the compact Land Cruiser FJ to defend its Asian market share against expanding Chinese automakers.

Toyota Motor developed the Land Cruiser FJ, the smallest model in its Land Cruiser lineup, to maintain its market share in Asia. The SUV serves as a strategic response to expanding Chinese automakers and specific customer demand for vehicles suited for narrow Asian roads.

Chief engineer Masaya Uchiyama reported that the model is currently exceeding sales targets in Japan and performing well in international markets. The vehicle is priced starting at approximately ¥4.5 million ($28,500).

Uchiyama noted that the FJ specifically targets consumers who previously avoided the Land Cruiser brand because of the size of larger models.
