Beauty Firms Develop Treatments for GLP-1 Weight Loss Effects

L'Oreal, Galderma, and Natura are creating specialized skincare and aesthetic treatments to address facial volume loss caused by rapid weight loss from GLP-1 drugs.

Beauty and medical aesthetics companies are developing targeted products to treat "Ozempic face," a condition involving skin laxity and facial volume loss. While medical experts note these changes result from rapid weight loss rather than the medications themselves, the surge in GLP-1 drug use has created a new market for corrective treatments.

L'Oreal, Galderma, and Natura are currently testing existing treatments and developing new products specifically for users of drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound. Galderma, a Swiss aesthetics firm, focuses on addressing sagginess, hollowness, and dullness through its Sculptra and Restylane lines. Natura is exploring a new generation of treatments, noting that the speed of these beauty needs suggests a future beyond topical creams.

Industry projections indicate significant financial growth for this sector. Boston Consulting Group estimates that revenue from clinical treatments for weight-loss-induced skin changes will rise from $700 million to $2 billion over the next five years. Some dermatologists argue that injectable fillers remain more effective than topical creams, as creams cannot reach the deep fat layers of the face required to restore volume.
