Twitch Uses Streamer Content to Train Amazon AI Models

Twitch confirmed on August 12, 2026, that it is utilizing livestream content—including videos on demand, clips, chats, and images—to train generative AI models for its parent company, Amazon. The platform implemented a privacy toggle in the Security and Privacy settings to allow users to opt out, but the feature is enabled by default.

Twitch executives defended the decision to avoid an opt-in system during a livestream, arguing that users would likely not participate if required to manually join. Officials clarified that while opting out prevents the use of data for generative AI, it does not disable non-generative tools such as AutoMod, captions, or ad selection. Additionally, users who opt out may still have their data used for training if they participate in the chat of a streamer who has not opted out.
