Intel Unveils Three Hardware Architectures for Agentic AI
Intel introduced the Diamond Rapids, Crescent Island, and Wildcat Lake architectures to support Agentic AI across data centers, enterprise systems, and edge devices.
Intel unveiled a three-pronged hardware architecture strategy for Agentic AI at the Hot Chips 2026 conference, shifting from a CPU-centric model to a system-level integration of CPUs, GPUs, and advanced packaging. The company positions this integrated approach as essential for agentic AI workloads, which require higher CPU activity and better inference economics than conventional AI to support continuous user interaction and larger model context windows.
The portfolio includes Diamond Rapids, a next-generation Xeon Scalable 7 processor built on the Intel 18A-P process featuring up to 256 cores and PCIe Gen6 support for enterprise-scale orchestration. For data center inference, Intel introduced Crescent Island, a low-power, air-cooled GPU based on the Xe3P architecture with 32 Xe cores and up to 480GB of LPDDR5X memory.
For client and edge systems, the company launched the Wildcat Lake architecture, which will be marketed as Intel Core Series 3 processors. These chips feature an NPU capable of 17 TOPS and integrated Xe3 graphics. All three platforms leverage Intel Foundry technologies, including the Intel 18A process family, Foveros Direct 3D packaging, and UCIe interconnects, to create a full-stack infrastructure for AI workloads.
