BMW Tests Neue Klasse Electric i4 Convertible for Late 2020s

BMW is developing an all-electric i4 Convertible, codenamed NA3, as part of its Neue Klasse vehicle lineup. The two-door model features a 2+2 seating configuration and a fabric soft-top designed to minimize weight and packaging complexity. Recent testing reveals production bodywork with a front-end design that integrates the headlights and kidney grilles into a single unit.

Inside, the vehicle is expected to include a 17.9-inch touchscreen and a Panoramic iDrive system, which replaces traditional driver dials with a full-width head-up display. The car will likely utilize Gen6 motors and batteries, sharing technology with the i3 Sedan and i3 Touring. As the i3 saloon takes over the sedan market, the i4 name will transition specifically to the two-door coupe and convertible variants.

Launch dates vary by report, with estimates placing the arrival in either 2027 or 2028, following the exit of the current i4 Gran Coupe from the market next year. Pricing for the new convertible is estimated to potentially exceed £60,000. BMW intends to continue selling gas-powered alternatives, including the G23 4 Series and G83 M4 Convertibles, until mid-2029.
