Experts Advise Staggered Gold Buying for Dhanteras Festival

Financial analysts recommend a buy-on-dips strategy for Indian investors purchasing gold and silver during the Dhanteras festival following a volatile year for precious metals.

Financial experts and brokerages are advising Indian investors to use a disciplined, staggered approach to purchasing gold and silver during the Dhanteras festival on November 6, 2026. This guidance follows a volatile year in which gold prices peaked near $5,600 an ounce in January before undergoing a correction.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services and Religare Broking recommend a buy-on-dips strategy, identifying domestic gold accumulation zones between Rs 1,30,000 and Rs 1,35,000. Analysts suggest treating precious metals as portfolio hedges rather than short-term bets, with recommended allocations of 5-10% for gold and 2-3% for silver. While gold is viewed as a defensive asset, silver is noted for higher upside potential alongside significant volatility and exposure to industrial demand.

Experts highlight the cost differences between physical jewellery, which incurs GST and making charges, and financial instruments like Gold ETFs and mutual funds. Some fund houses have temporarily suspended new investments in gold funds of funds since mid-October. The World Gold Council reported a decline in India's jewellery demand and a rise in gold ETF demand for 2026.
