Mercedes-Benz Recalls 347,000 Vehicles Over Rollaway Risk

Mercedes-Benz is recalling approximately 347,000 vehicles across the United States and Canada due to a defective driver-side door lock microswitch. The flaw, attributed to a supplier development error, allows moisture to penetrate the switch's plastic housing in high-humidity and high-temperature climates, causing corrosion. This failure can prevent the vehicle from detecting when a driver has opened the door, which in turn blocks the electronic parking brake and the auto-park feature from engaging automatically.

The recall affects various models from 2019 to 2026, including the A-Class, C-Class, CLA-Class, CLE-Class, GLA-Class, GLB-Class, and GLC-Class. In the United States, 310,667 vehicles are impacted, while nearly 37,000 vehicles are being recalled in Canada. Authorized dealers will replace the affected door locks free of charge.

While the automaker identified 176 related field cases in the U.S. between 2020 and 2026, it reports no known instances of actual vehicle rollaways within the United States. However, company data indicates that such rollaway events have occurred in other countries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Transport Canada have published documentation regarding the safety risk.
