Phillips argues that these elections are necessary to restore the balance of power defined by the U.S. Constitution, specifically advocating for the election of Chellie Pingree and Matt Dunlap to the U.S. House, Troy Jackson to the U.S. Senate, and Hannah Pingree for governor.
Phillips claims the current administration has overstepped executive authority by engaging in war with Iran without Congressional approval and barring CNN from White House press events. He further alleges that the administration has withheld approximately $177 billion in funds from agencies including the National Institutes of Health and USAID.
Framing the vote as a critical step to protect voting rights and the First Amendment, Phillips cites the historical precedent of Senator Margaret Chase Smith's Declaration of Conscience to support his call for action.
