OpenAI Launches Global Initiative to Expand AI Infrastructure

OpenAI is expanding an international initiative called OpenAI for Countries to encourage governments to build data centers and integrate artificial intelligence into education, health, and disaster preparedness. During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, executives George Osborne and Chris Lehane pitched the project to government officials to bridge the technological gap between nations.

Eleven countries have signed up for the initiative through various deal structures. Estonia is embedding ChatGPT Edu into secondary schools, while Norway and the United Arab Emirates are collaborating on the construction of data centers. In South Korea, OpenAI is exploring a partnership with the government's water authority to develop a real-time water-disaster warning and defense system.

The push for global adoption comes as the company, recently valued at $500 billion, explores a public offering that could reach a $1 trillion valuation. Simultaneously, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella warned that AI could become a bubble if the benefits of the technology do not spread more evenly beyond wealthy economies and large technology firms.
