U.S. Indicts Russian Operatives for Assassination Plot in D.C.

The United States Department of Justice issued an indictment alleging that Russian intelligence operatives plotted to assassinate a Russian dissident residing in the Washington, D.C. area. The indictment identifies Yuri Khrameev, a retired Russian intelligence colonel, and his son, an officer in the Federal Security Service, as the organizers of the operation.

According to the charges, the organizers paid a Venezuelan national to conduct surveillance on the target during the summer of 2026. The defendants are currently at large.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to the allegations by stating that the Russian government would not comment until provided with "credible evidence and arguments based on tangible facts."
