Eric Deters Sues Kimberly Guilfoyle for Defamation
Attorney Eric Deters filed a defamation lawsuit against former U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle following her resignation over allegations of selling political influence.
Kentucky attorney and donor Eric Deters filed a defamation lawsuit in Kentucky state court on Thursday against former U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and her legal team. The lawsuit follows allegations that Guilfoyle requested Deters pay a $100,000 American Express bill in exchange for influence within the Trump administration.
Deters alleges that Guilfoyle's legal team defamed him by labeling him a blackmailer and claiming that text messages documenting the request were fake. He further claims Guilfoyle asked him to create a phony paper trail to suggest he owed her money.
The controversy led to Guilfoyle's resignation as Ambassador to Greece on Tuesday, an action encouraged by the White House. While Guilfoyle has vowed to fight the allegations as false, Deters warned that the legal proceedings could potentially impact the JD Vance and Marco Rubio ticket and bring down the entire Trump administration.
