BC NDP and Conservatives Name Candidates for Snap Election
The BC NDP and Conservative Party of B.C. are finalizing candidate slates following a snap election call triggered by U.S. tariff threats.
Premier David Eby called a snap election on September 22, citing the need for a provincial mandate to counter tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump and to reduce British Columbia's economic dependence on the United States. In response, the BC NDP announced its Interior candidates on September 25, including Andrea Dunlop for the Columbia River – Revelstoke seat. Dunlop, a former teacher and business owner, joins incumbents Steve Morissette, Brittny Anderson, and Harwinder Sandhu on the party's slate.
Simultaneously, the Conservative Party of B.C. is reorganizing after a caucus revolt led to the resignation of former leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay. The party has nominated Caroline Elliott, a policy analyst and former leadership contender, for the West Vancouver-Capilano riding. To accommodate Elliott, incumbent MLA Lynne Block will instead run in the NDP-held North Vancouver-Seymour riding against incumbent Susie Chant.
Elliott has urged the Conservative Party to move beyond traditional free-enterprise politics to challenge the NDP's cultural agenda and Indigenous reconciliation policies. She has endorsed Lorne Doerksen as the new party leader, characterizing him as a uniter.
