Nigeria Democratic Congress Unveils 2027 National Campaign Council
The Nigeria Democratic Congress established its National Campaign Council and scheduled a series of events in Abuja to prepare for the 2027 general elections.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted its National Campaign Council (NCC) to lead strategic mobilization for the 2027 general elections. The council is chaired by National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, with presidential candidate Peter Obi serving as Co-chairman. Other leadership roles include Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe as Vice Chairman and vice-presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as Co-vice Chairman. Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim was appointed Director-General to lead a people-centered and issue-based campaign.
To launch these efforts, the party scheduled three major events for Monday, October 26, 2026, in Abuja. The day begins with a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the JD Event Centre in Maitama, followed by the commissioning of a new national secretariat in Jabi, and concludes with the formal inauguration of the NCC and the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates.
As part of its push for transparency, the NDC will release a financial statement of account during the NEC meeting. National Publicity Secretary Osa Director reported that the party provided expression-of-interest forms free of charge to approximately 80 percent of its candidates, citing widespread poverty and economic hardship caused by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The NDC has challenged the APC to adopt similar financial openness.
