Jasmine Crockett Declines to Campaign for James Talarico

U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett announced she will not actively campaign for James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for the Texas Senate and the candidate who defeated her in the March primary. Crockett stated her focus will be on campaigning for down-ballot candidates, arguing that a single top-of-ticket candidate is insufficient to mobilize voters in Texas.

Neera Tanden, head of the Center for American Progress, criticized the decision, suggesting that beating opponent Ken Paxton is more important than personal feelings. Talarico, however, defended Crockett and urged his supporters to treat her with the respect she has earned.

To bolster his candidacy in a race influenced by economic factors and shifting Latino support for the GOP, Talarico has pledged $25 million toward Black voter outreach.
